Product Notes

After the Allman Brothers split up in 1982, Dickey Betts formed a new band, recruiting the soulful vocalist and sax player from Wet Willie, Jimmy Hall as co-leader. They also got fellow ABB members Chuck Leavell, David Goldflies, and Butch Trucks to join, forming the Betts, Hall, Leavell, and Trucks Band (aka BHLT). The band never recorded an album, but their live shows were legendary. The repertoire includes Betts work in the ABB, Jimmy Hall's solo material and classic Wet Willie and several choice covers. BHLT supplied a unique, driving blues-rock sound that was quite impressive. The BHLT performance, recorded at The Coffee Pot, Roanoke, VA, in January of 1983 kicks off with the R&B flavored "Nothing You Can Do." Betts and Hall alternate lead vocals and trade licks on guitar and sax. The band really begins to cook and includes one of the best versions of Betts' signature anthem, "Ramblin' Man." Betts switches to slide guitar, Hall blows great harp, and there is some phenomenal piano work from Chuck Leavell. The recording also includes a unique take on Betts' classic instrumental, "Jessica." This is a 'must see' performance. Includes exclusive, rare interviews.
