In the Chinese language, the word for love, ?, is pronounced the same way as the letter "I" in English. This album is a collectionI of soprano Hsuan Ma's favorite Chinese art and folk songs. The definition of love, as described in the songs, has many meanings-- the admiration of nature, the passion for the landscapes of one's hometown, as well as the feelings shared by lovers in daily life. Moreover, the poetic texts of these art songs span fourteen centuries set to music by many phenomenal Chinese composers, who were influenced by Western music from the end of the nineteenth century until today. In this album, we hear the voices of nature, songs of the animals, and cries of despair and yearning, as portrayed by A unique combination of Chinese and Western instruments accompanying Hsuan Ma's sensitive and captivating interpretations.
